Previously known as Kondhana, the fort had been the site of many battles, most notably the Battle of Sinhagad in 1670 which has a great history of Tanaji Malusare. The fort was captured by Tanaji Malusare and his brother. Sinhagad Valley is amazing place for Trekking, sightseeing, bird watching and bird photography. It is located near Pune. It is a famous bird watching spot for Punekars as it boosts for around 250+ species of birds. It has a variety of flycatchers. Birders ply during the season for sighting the Indian Paradise flycatcher, Verditer flycatcher and the Ultramarine flycatcher. There are two routes from the parking, right turn takes you towards the Sinhagad while the left turn from the parking takes you to the Sinhagad valley where all you will find flock of birders and start hearing calls of different birds and spot birds in the valley. You may not need any guide as the place is easy to explore. Just near the entry, you will see a huge tree which has a shrine at its base and small stream passes next to it. A lot of birds come at this point for water, hence a place with sure-shot sightings. Moving forward; you can keep moving along the trail which passes through the paddy fields; and after crossing the fields you need to take a right. You will realize that the trail disappears soon and you reach an open space beyond which is a relatively dense and woody jungle buzzing with bird calls. You may also occasionally hear and spot the barking deers. During weekends, reach there as early as 06.00 AM for selecting better place for your setup. If you prefer to go there on weekdays, you’ll have better chances of getting really good captures for yourself because there will be less crowd on weekdays comparatively. Else during weekends it’s flooded with photographers. If you are lucky enough, you can spot different species of birds in a single visit. Also there are plenty of hotels/stalls for accommodation/snacks at a very cheaper rates.
