A ferrule can have a significant impact on the fracture resistance of a tooth, and it can help to prevent the fracture from spreading to the root. There are many factors that can affect the ferrule effect. Some of the most important factors include the height of the ferrule, the width of the ferrule, and the number of walls that it covers. The type of tooth and the extent of lateral loading can also affect the ferrule effect. The height of the ferrule is the distance from the edge of the ferrule to the tooth fracture. The higher the height of the ferrule, the greater its effect. The ferrule height should be at least 2 mm, but it should be higher in many cases. The width of the ferrule is the distance between the edge of the ferrule and the outer surface of the tooth. The wider the ferrule, the greater its effect. The ferrule width should be at least 1 mm, but it should be wider in many cases. The number of walls that the ferrule covers is the number of walls that surround the fracture. The greater the number of walls that the ferrule covers, the greater its effect. The ferrule should cover at least 3 walls, but it should cover 4 walls in many cases. The type of tooth can also affect the ferrule effect. Front teeth are more prone to fracture than back teeth, so they may need higher and wider ferrules. The extent of lateral loading of the tooth can also affect the ferrule effect. Teeth that are heavily loaded laterally, such as back teeth, may need higher and wider ferrules. The type of post can also affect the ferrule effect. Posts made of stronger materials, such as titanium, may require smaller ferrules than posts made of less strong materials, such as gold. The type of core material can also affect the ferrule effect. in this lecture we will discuss the best core material according to many studies . In conclusion, the ferrule effect is an important concept in dentistry that can help to prevent the fracture from spreading to the root.
