Guitar Scratch Removal Repair & Polish Gloss Finish 10-Minute Wet Sanding Tutorial

Today we do a little 10-minute demo on minor scratch removal. These techniques, while used on a clear gloss headstock, can also work on a painted body. Just remember to start on a small section (if possible less visible) and err on the side of a higher grit. If you find it does not remove the scratches you're trying to get rid of, you can then try a lower grit. Once you've found a grit that will dull the offending scratches, you can move up through successive higher grits as shown in the video, with the ultimate goal being your final use of a rubbing compound making the damaged area as near invisible as possible. Results depend on how long you are willing to spend. I still have some very faint scratching visible after this repair. Perhaps if I had started with a little coarser grit I could have removed more. But the other trade off to remember is if you start with too coarse a grit, by the time you get to your final grit you may have removed too much clear coat, leaving a spot that will never regain the glossy look to match surrounding areas.
