Open science is widely acknowledged as an important movement supporting transparency and reproducibility. A legitimate question, therefore, is how open the world’s most influential medical journals really are. In this webinar, Constant Vinatier takes us behind the scenes of editorial policies and published articles to explore how open science is promoted, implemented, and monitored in practice. By combining policy analysis with large-scale screening of published research, the talk provides a broad picture of journals’ declared commitments and what can actually be detected in published articles. It also examines whether automated tools can reliably track transparency practices... and what they may miss. Most importantly, the presentation shows how editorial policies can shape researchers’ behaviour over time. This session offers an evidence-based look at the importance and impact of open science policies, and why strengthening them matters far beyond clinical trials.
