Maria Teresa Baclig is a vibrant 18-year old Fil-Canadian who loves music, theatre, dance, science, and making a difference. She is secretary of her student council and sits on the Minister’s Student Advisory Council which advises the Minister of Education and other education stakeholders. She also enjoys running the Teacher Evaluations and Teen Mentoring Programs at her school. Maria advocates for a bigger student voice in the education system and will be discussing ways to accomplish this. Maria will argue that we need to empower learners and let them play a greater role in creating an education system that is more responsive to student concerns. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
