It is the most magnificent example of Phrygian rock façades. It is located on the northeastern skirt of the Midas city plateau, on a rock mass protruding forward. It was first studied and sketched in 1800 by W. M. Leake et al. This drawing by G. Koehler has a special place because it is the first drawing that gives an idea about the general appearance of the Phrygian façades, despite its many errors and shortcomings. In 1834 Ch. Texier examined the monument and made an engraving. This is the first and only engraving that is faithful to the monument and reflects all its splendor. This name was given to the monument because of the word Midai in the Phrygian inscription on the flattened bedrock in the upper left part of the monument. The local people named the monument as Yazılıkaya because of the inscriptions on it. Both names are used today. The east-facing monument is 17.00 m high and 16.50 m wide. Its height from the ground is 1.20-1.80 m. The apical acroter consists of two opposing circle segments. The pediment and the façade wall are decorated with a rich decoration of geometric motifs. In the center of the monument, there is a large niche symbolizing the door. This is the holiest part where the statue of the goddess Matar is placed during religious ceremonies. There are Phrygian inscriptions on the monument. The first inscription is engraved on the flattened bedrock in the upper left part of the monument. 11.00 m. is long. Here the name of King Midas is read. The second inscription is on the right side frame. It is written from left to right sideways in the space between the decoration and the frame edge. It is 4.75 m long. The word father is interesting. The first of these inscriptions, which can be read but whose meanings cannot be deciphered, is related to the whole monument in terms of its location. The second is more special. Also, on both sides of the second frame surrounding the niche and on the lower part of the decoration to the right of the niche, there are a few Phrygian words that can hardly be seen with the naked eye. These are rather coarse and superficially engraved. It is important that the Mother Goddess Matar is mentioned in these. The inscription in the niche to the left of the monument starts from the left wall of the niche and continues on the back wall and right wall. It is 4.45 m long. In 1936 and 1937, archaeological excavations were carried out in front of the monument. A courtyard (17 mx19 m) sloping to the north under the fill soil, which reaches 3 m thick in places on the bedrock, a smooth floor carved into the bedrock belonging to a columned gallery and 4 column bases were unearthed. It is bordered by a large niche in the west direction. Researchers agree that there was a large open-air cult complex dedicated to the Mother Goddess Matar, consisting of a monumental façade, an open courtyard, and a colonnaded gallery. FIRST INSCRIPTION: It is located on the flattened bedrock in the upper left part of the pediment. It is inscribed from left to right in a curved manner, starting from the left corner of the pediment towards the acrotes. It is 11 meters long. Letter lengths are 0.45 m - 0.40 m. The words Ates and Midai are also seen in the inscription. SECOND INSCRIPTION: It is on the right side frame of the monument. It is written from left to right. It is 4.75 m long. Letter lengths are 0.25 m. THIRD INSCRIPTION: The inscription in the niche to the left of the monument starts from the left wall of the niche and continues on the back wall and right wall. It is 4.45 m long. Letter lengths are 0.40 - 0.45 m.
