Ambulance driving off AP Video shot by Mstyslav Chernov STORYLINE: In the Edelweiss field hospital near the frontline in the Donbas region, a small team of medics from the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade, are patching up and shipping out the soldiers injured in the ongoing battle for the Bakhmut region. The Ukrainian General Staff said Wednesday that “heavy fighting” was continuing inside Bakhmut, days after Russia claimed it had completely captured the devastated city. The head of Ukraine’s ground forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said Kyiv’s forces “are continuing their defensive operation” in Bakhmut, with unspecified “successes” on its outskirts. He didn't elaborate. Among the bloodied fighters brought to the field hospital for treatment on Wednesday, was one soldier who goes by the nom de guerre Evgeniy. He described how the dugout he was in was hit with mortar fire and he was brought in with shrapnel wounds and a broken ankle. With his leg strapped into a support contraption, he was helped into a waiting ambulance to be taken away for further treatment elsewhere in Ukraine.
