Forging a Tribute: The 1095 & Railroad Spike Jockey Knife. This build was a special one—a custom memorial piece handcrafted to honor Mike’s life and his passion for the track. In this video, I take you through the entire process of marrying rugged materials with a refined finish to create a one-of-a-kind tribute. Technical Build Details: • Blade: High-carbon 1095 spring steel for a superior edge. • Handle: A repurposed railroad spike, forged and shaped for a unique grip. • Theme: A custom horse-and-jockey profile to honor a legacy. The Process: From the first heat in the forge to the final quench, this project was about balancing the grit of the spike with the precision of the 1095 steel. This piece has already been sold and delivered, but I wanted to share the craftsmanship that went into making it. Key Steps in the Shop: • Hand-forging the 1095 spring steel. • Shaping the railroad spike transition. • Heat treating for maximum durability. • Final grinding and polishing the memorial profile. Thanks for watching the craft and being part of this tribute to Mike. #Blacksmithing #KnifeMaking #CustomKnife #Forging #MemorialKnife #1095Steel #RailroadSpikeKnife #HandForged #Bladesmith #JockeyLife #HorseRacing #Metalwork #Shoplife
