Hey, welcome to the first episode of SRPG studies, a series in which I, well, study the history of the Strategy Role Playing Game as a genre. We're starting with the game widely considered the codifier of the genre, a title I largely agree with it deserving: Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Tsurugi, translated as Shadow (or Dark) Dragon and the Sword of Light. I was generally really impressed with the game, and of the other early games I've already played for the series, is probably my favorite of the bunch (though Gaiden might take that crown, once I replay it.) Next episode will be on Shining Force by Sonic! Software Planning, later and more popularly known as Camelot! Software Planning. Since this video very much is my first rodeo, I completely messed up the recording for my playthrough of the game, and had no b-roll to use. I figured out what went wrong and it won't happen again, but I wasn't about to play a 20 hour game for the third time after screwing up recording b-roll twice- I had to get this thing out the door. So, the footage for this video comes from Tsunao's longplay of the Switch port of the game for the World of Longplays channel/Longplays.org, at • Switch Longplay [082] Fire Emblem: Shadow ... . Thanks so much for this being online, really a lifesaver on that one. The music, as low mixed as it is, is either from Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together for the first two sections, and then from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) for the rest of the video. I know nobody really reads these, but hey, if you for some reason are, like and subscribe I suppose. I'm going to try to get these out monthly, but no promises.
