On Jan. 22, 2021, the OPC and the Silurians Press Club hosted an online video memorial to Seymour Topping, the distinguished foreign correspondent and author who had impact on the lives of so many people and institutions involved in coverage of China and international affairs. “Top,” a longtime member and past Governor of the Overseas Press Club, passed away in November 2020 at the age of 98. OPC Past President Bill Holstein moderated. Speakers, in order of appearance, were: OPC Past President Allan Dodds Frank Jason Topping Cone, grandson Robin Topping, daughter OPC Past Executive Director Sonya Fry Sig Gissler James Brooke (via video recording from Ukraine) Mort Rosenblum Warren Hoge Michael Goldfarb, Topping’s former student A statement from Orville Schell, read by Holstein OPC Past President David A. Andelman Audrey Topping, wife OPC Governor Farnaz Fassihi Hedrick Smith The program also included video clips of anecdotes from Seymour Topping, as well as a slideshow of images that demonstrate the scope of Topping's career, prepared by his daughter Lesley Topping.
