Laurel River Lake is one of the clearest lakes in Kentucky, but that means only 5-15 feet of visibility. With temperatures about 39°F (4°C) at depths below 80' that means cumbersome gloves and hood. Add in the task loading of gas switches between nitrox 32 and trimix 21/39, managing the dive flag reel, avoiding tangling in underwater trees, and trying to navigate well enough to stay away from the dam pump intakes... this is one of the spookiest dives I do. In addition to the practice platform shown, there is also welded steel man statue and a treasure chest that I didn't visit on this trip.
