Best Bike shop around! www.worldwidecyclery.com : Use code “Wes10” My camera gear: https://kit.com/WesPeebles Instagram: / wes_peebles Strava: / strava The age old debate, do I run a gimbal or not? The sound quality, the angle, the hassle, all legitimate concerns. I've been using the tried and trusted Hero 4 black with an EVO SS gimbal for the past few months now and the stability is unmatched, but some might not enjoy that, not so rider exact, angle or the annoying gimbal motor noise that is terrible on the Hero 5 and 6 and still sometimes captured on the Hero 3 and 4. I have been curious of the actual real world MTB performance of GoPro's new stability claims on the Hero 6 but have yet to see a good video of this camera mounted to a helmet, which acts as a stabilizer in itself and still to this day is the truest rider POV in my opinion. So I went out and got the new Hero 6 and tried it out for myself. The only real appeal for me with this camera is the ability to capture stabilized 4k/30 footage. So thats what I did. First off, the image quality is amazing and noticeably better than the Hero 4. The new "GoPro Color" is pretty spot on with enough pop to draw you in but not too saturated. The sound quality seems good enough but since I've always run a wind screen on my GoPro's when mounted to a helmet, the sound quality is usually pretty good. In my opinion, the stabilization IS better than the Hero 5. At a few points in the video if you watch the horizon, you can see the stabilization working to keep the image stable but flickering the horizon, I remember my Hero 5 doing this much more than the Hero 6 did. Keep in mind this was a VERY rough beat up trail and its the end of the MTB season around here. All in all I am pleased with both the image quality and stability of the camera but not entirely ready to give up my Hero 4 and EVO SS set up. What do you guys think? Is this angle better and the footage just as or more enjoyable? Leave a comment below.
