In March 2020, Dr. Anthony Fauci estimated 240,000 American deaths if strict health measures weren’t taken in response to COVID-19 — a number that seemed astronomically high at the time. This November, we surpassed that number with no end in sight. The virus is surging across the globe and within the United States. In Arizona, case numbers are rising every day. Hospitalizations and deaths are increasing, while cold weather sets in, flu season begins and holiday gatherings occur. With no cohesive national strategy and erratic responses from state and local governments, how are health systems coping with a pandemic that is spiraling out of control? How will exhausted health professionals endure? What lessons can be learned from responses globally, and what can policymakers do next for planning and preparedness? ASU’s College of Health Solutions offers its Health Talks speaker series to inspire collaboration and conversation on important topics in health. Recorded Thursday, Dec. 10.
