Hey everyone, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2020 Volvo XC90, we're gonna be showing you how to install the Tekonsha custom-fit vehicle wiring harness. Before we do that though, let's just take a minute, we'll check this out and make sure it's gonna be the right kit for you. So if you plan on doing any towing with your XC90, you're gonna need a way to power up the lights on your trailer. You know, that way you're not only safe, but it's a legal requirement as well. And so that's where wiring kit like this is gonna come into play, right And with this one you have a couple of different ways you can set it up. You could have your connector outside, next to your hitch, kinda ready to go, or you can keep it mounted inside. And that's how we have ours set up. So if you do it like this, whenever you're ready to use it, open up the hatch, and we have it stored right there, which I'm a fan of, you know, especially if you don't tow all that often, you don't have to see it on the back of your car, it's out of the weather, and things like that. But got plenty of length here. So when you're ready to use it, all you have to do is drop it over your threshold like that, just make sure you avoid the latch area, and close the hash on it. And it might seem kinda odd doing that. You know, and the first couple times I did it with vehicles like this, it just kinda feels odd, but you're not gonna hurt the wiring. It's set up to be able to do that. You're not gonna hurt your vehicle or anything like that. But that's going to provide us with a four-way flat-type connector, which is really common, smaller, medium sized trailers. And we'll get all of our basic functions. We'll get our tail lights, our brake lights, and our turn signals. There is another wiring kit available for the XC90, and that one's made by Curt, and I happen to have it on hand here. And to compare it to our Tekonsha kit, honestly, I really don't have a preference between the both of them. They're both nice kits, come with everything you need, and they're both going to simply just plug into the back of your taillight harness. That's how they receive all the signals and everything. So really convenient kits, you know, and they're definitely gonna get the job done. As far as the installation goes, you would think on a Volvo, you know, right away think it's probably gonna be complicated doing wiring and stuff, but it's really not. This is actually one of the easier wiring kits out there. Since the battery is in the back of the vehicle, you don't really have to route, you know, a ton of wires, or anything like that. Everything's pretty easy to get to. You know, you're not gonna have to reprogram this, or go to the dealer or anything along those lines, to get your wiring, this wiring kit to work. This is something you can do at home, start to finish. With that said, if you'd rather not mess with it, don't have the time, place, I definitely understand that. You can always use our dealer locator network, and that can help you find a shop that can set this up for you. But if you're doing this on your own, feel free to hang around. We'll go ahead and get started on it now. To begin our installation, we're gonna be working at the back of our Volvo and we need to open up our rear hatch, and we're gonna remove some of our floor coverings here. So with this one, just simply lifts right out. We'll get all these foam pieces out of our way too. And it looks like they're not secured down or anything. Let's get all these out of our way. We can remove our threshold piece that runs across here. So on each side there'll be an eight millimeter head screw. (tool whirring) We'll get both of these off. (tool whirring) And then this should just be kind of pushed into place. So what you can do is just kinda work up on it, lift it out of position, and we'll set this off to the side for now. On the passenger side, we're gonna have this plastic compartment here and just pull up on that to release it, get that out of our way. And then on the driver's side, we're gonna have this little door. Just kinda grab down on the top and top that free. Still over here on the driver's side, if you look into this opening that that panel is covering, and look up right here, that's our taillight connector, and t
