About the artiste Renuka Suryanarayan is a Chennai-based Carnatic classical vocalist and a special cultural correspondent for The Hindu newspaper, with a Ph.D. in Journalism from Ohio University. A disciple of Sangeet Samrat Chitravina Ravikiran and a former student of Ramnad Krishnan, she has performed extensively, including for the Melharmony Foundation in the USA. Her latest performance was at the Thyagaraja Festival in Cleveland this year. Her work also involves contributing articles on music for The Hindu and Sruti Magazine, including pieces about young musicians. Musical Lineage: She is a disciple of Chitravina Ravikiran and a former student of Ramnad Krishnan, with roots in the music of her great-grand-uncle, the Thamizh composer Koteeswara Iyer. Carnatic Musician: She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Indian Music from Queen Mary’s College, Chennai, and a Sangita Vidwan title from Dr.J.Jayalalitha University, Chennai and performs Carnatic music, often setting to tune various compositions and presenting kritis at temples and festivals. Her latest concerts were at Cleveland Festival, USA, Mozart Festival, Madison, USA, Gayatri Fine Arts, and Anusham Fine Arts, Chennai to name a few.
