Autostrad/Nasr Road

This drive goes for a few kilometers on this first expressway built through Cairo. Nasr Road, also called Autostrad, runs from Helwan northwards to Almaza Airport. There are quite a few reminders of Gamal Abdel Nasser, who created the Nasr Road in the sixties of last century, as we start near the poor neighborhood of Mandshiet Nasr and drive into the rather wealthy Nasr City. On the way, we pass a traffic jam at the construction site of a bridge over the autostrad with a junction, where soon a brand new expressway will lead from Salah Salem through the City of the Dead and Mandshiet Nasr to the Ramses Extension Highway.
