Continuing our special reporting on the homelessness crisis, we head to the streets of San Francisco, home to half of the country’s unhoused population. We speak to Moon Tomahawk, a San Francisco native who now lives under a freeway in a cardboard shelter he made. Tomahawk, who was forced onto the streets two years ago, has been living in this location for about two months, which he says is a "long time out here," given the frequent sweeps and destruction of property by city workers and local police, and an increasingly hostile climate toward unhoused residents. Despite these challenges, Tomahawk is hopeful. "I do see myself getting out of this situation," he says, but notes the difficulty of getting back on one's feet after being without housing. "Once you get into the situation, it's extremely difficult to get out," says Tomahawk. "It's kind of like a pit trap." #DemocracyNow Democracy Now! is an independent global news hour that airs on nearly 1,400 TV and radio stations Monday through Friday.
