In this piano tutorial for beginners Brett teaches the names of all the white keys and how to find the Cs at the piano. If you can say the English alphabet, you can say the names of the white keys at the piano: A, B, C, D, E, F, G. (We will learn the names of the black keys in a separate video.) It turns out that the very lowest (leftmost) note of a standard piano keyboard is an A. Then, as you move up – that is, to the right – you simply go through the alphabet from A to G. Always having to start at the lowest note of the piano, however, would not be a good long-term way of finding out the name of a key; we need a key that we can use for our orientation anywhere at the keyboard be it high or low. This key will be C, of which there are eight on a standard piano keyboard. Each C can be found immediately below (that is, to the left of) each group of two black keys. To find the uppermost C – the highest note on a standard piano keyboard -- you must imagine the next group of two black keys that would have been there had the piano been larger.
