🐎✨ Join me on an exhilarating Boxing Day 2024 as I embark on my first-ever English Drag Hunting experience! What is drag hunting, you ask? Originating in early 19th-century England, this equestrian sport was developed to test the speed and agility of hounds by laying a scent trail over a specified distance. Unlike traditional fox hunting, a pre-laid scent trail is followed, making it a humane and thrilling adventure. Here, you’ll find helmet cam (GoPro) footage, spectator views showcasing South Africa’s beautiful countryside, and still shots capturing the day’s excitement. Riding alongside my sister-in-law, Debbie (my sister from another mister) and her horse “Be The Best”, and a group of passionate equestrians, we explored the traditions, and etiquette of drag hunting. FUN FACT: no matter the time of day, when you retire from the hunt, you say “goodnight.” And after every hunt — whether it's day or night — you celebrate with a hearty “breakfast”! This was not just a ride for Nova and me—it was stepping out of our comfort zone. Normally, we’re alone on the cross-country course, but here, we were surrounded by over 50 horses! Nova was thrilled (and slightly overexcited!), and while we intended to go at a slow pace, let’s just say hunters don’t know what “slow” means! With a strict hierarchy—Master, Huntsman, Whippers-In—we learned to follow protocol while embracing the camaraderie of this unique equestrian community. I hope this inspires you to try something new, take on fresh challenges, and enjoy the beauty of the unknown. 🌟 “Step out of the comfort zone—you never know what you’ll discover.” #gopro #equestrianlife #trysomethingdifferent #adventureawaits #comeridewithme #pov ---- Hello, I’m Shelley, I’m a 50 yrs young South African equestrian and life enthusiast.
