Ridge preservation of large alveolar ridge defects using biologized bone substitute materials

Aim: Presentation of a method – open healing concept – for the treatment of large alveolar ridge defects in the posterior region using bone substitute materials made of a collagen matrix and ß-TCP (Cerasorb® Foam) biologized according to the LSCC protocol. For this purpose, collagen membranes were left exposed in the augmented side tooth area, covered with fibrin matrices and the open healing concept follows afterwards. Material and method: A treatment concept for the treatment of large alveolar ridge defects in the posterior region prior to implantation is presented. An augmentation concept is carried out using the technique of a controlled bone regeneration (GBR) in combination with an open healing concept. Conclusion: The presented cases show us that using a bone substitute material made of a collagen matrix and ß-TCP (Cerasorb® Foam) biologized according to the LSCC protocol large alveolar ridge defects can be regeneratively prepared and augmented. In combination with an open healing concept and the GBR technique before planned implantation complex two-stage as well as multi-stage and complex augmentative procedures can be avoided. This reduces the risks for our patients and shortens the treatment time effectively.
