Does your child struggle making the "R" sound? If your child is 5 years old or older and has a lot of language but needs help making the "R" sound, try this trick from our MeBe Speech Language Pathology Team! Use a floss pick to help pull your child's tongue back inside their mouth and then practice making the "R" sound. The floss pick pulls the tongue backwards and prevents the tongue from coming forward. Practice "R" words like "rainbow" with the floss pick in place. The words may sound funny but this helps your child practice pulling their tongue back to make the "R" sound. Watch the video to see examples of what this looks like! This video is part of our series on speech and language skills and is presented by Nikki Rosner, MA, CCC-SLP, MeBe Clinical Director of Speech & Language Pathology and Kristin Williams, M.S., CF-SLP, MeBe Speech Language Pathologist in Seattle. This video is a free educational resource provided by MeBe. Visit mebefamily.com and follow @mebefamily on Facebook and Instagram to learn more.
