This frustrating situation has troubled millions of private vehicle owners across India. Now, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has brought major relief. To reduce unnecessary stoppages and paperwork, NHAI has decided to completely remove the mandatory KYC process after FASTag issuance for private vehicles. From 1st February 2026, all newly issued FASTags for private cars, jeeps, and vans will no longer require post-issuance KYC. All verification will be completed before issuing the FASTag, using the government’s VAHAN database. This will significantly reduce toll plaza delays, document-related hassles, and FASTag suspensions. Banks will now be fully responsible for verifying vehicle registration details before issuing FASTags. KYC may still be required only in special cases such as incorrect vehicle mapping, improper tag installation, or suspected fraud. Please note, this relaxation applies only to private vehicles. Commercial vehicles like buses and trucks will continue to follow the existing KYC rules. Existing FASTag users will also see no change in current regulations. NHAI believes this move will strengthen the digital toll system and make highway travel smoother and faster.
