Villa Quintili is an ancient Roman villa located along the Via Appia Antica, almost outside Rome. The villa was constructed in the second century AD, during the reign of the emperor Marcus Aurelius. It originally belonged to the Quintili brothers, Sextus Quintilius Maximus and Sextus Quintilius Condianus, who were both consuls in 151 AD. The property was later seized by Emperor Commodus, who had the brothers executed on charges of conspiracy. This vlog has a detailed story about this, so watch it till the end :) The site has been extensively excavated since the 18th century, revealing much about Roman domestic architecture and luxury. A couple of thermal baths and numerous artifacts have been uncovered, including sculptures, frescoes, and mosaics. Some of these, are presented in this vlog. For anyone interested in Roman history and architecture, Villa Quintili offers a fascinating glimpse into the past, showcasing the grandeur and sophistication of Roman elite life.
