SOUNDBITE: (English) Romano Prodi, Italian Prime Minister: "Italy is looking to India with the deep, deep, deep attention, friendship and I see fraternity also and the expectation is really to accompany the fantastic growth, the change of this country with a strong sense of unity and of course my policy is to be the bridge to Asia and so a link to India. It will be the new policy." 14. Mid of Prodi and Singh leaving STORYLINE: Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi said on Thursday that his country would like to be "the bridge to Asia" and that India was part of Italy's global strategy for gaining market access in the Asian region. "The expectation is really to accompany the fantastic growth, the change of this country with a strong sense of unity and of course my policy is to be the bridge to Asia and so a link to India," Prodi said. Prodi made the comments during a visit to New Delhi alongside over 400 business delegates. Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh welcomed Prodi and his wife at the Presidential palace during an official ceremony. Prodi and his wife were later greeted by the President of ruling Congress party, Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi. The Italian Prime Minister arrived in the Indian capital after visiting Calcutta, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai. He is expected to hold talks with Singh later on Thursday. Indian and Italian firms signed several business agreements in Mumbai on Wednesday. The countries are hoping to more than double their bilateral trade by 2009.
