India’s Engineering Marvel! PM Modi Inaugurates 6-Lane Brahmaputra Bridge in Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, a spectacular 6-lane bridge built across the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati, Assam. Constructed at a cost of ₹3,030 crore, the 8.4-km-long structure stands as a true engineering marvel. The bridge connects Guwahati with North Guwahati and reduces travel time from nearly 2 hours to just 10 minutes. Earlier, commuters had to travel an additional 25–30 km to reach North Guwahati. Designed as an extradosed bridge with high-performance stay cables, it incorporates advanced base isolation technology using friction pendulum bearings to withstand high seismic activity in the region. A modern Bridge Health Monitoring System ensures real-time safety tracking and durability. Apart from boosting connectivity to AIIMS, IIT, and major institutions in North Guwahati, the bridge also has strategic military importance, capable of supporting heavy war tanks and missile systems during emergencies.
