This is probably the most technically demanding song in my catalog! It took many takes to get to this one. I like to explain how I put these videos together because there is a lot of audio production going on, and on youtube, a lot of the time that means you're seeing someone miming. While filming I recorded direct into the computer, jamming over the bass, drums, and metronome. I then mixed the song together by pulling from stems and multitracks to fill out the tune. You are hearing and seeing me play the left side rhythm guitar, and of course the solos. When the leads come up, the left side rhythm guitar changes from my live video take to a DI from the record itself. The right side rhythm guitar is all Ryan Knights album stem, and the lead harmonies are his DIs from the record as well. On the record Ryan jumps in for a quick lick in the guitar solo, but here I instead played my own lick there from my original demo just to keep the continuity going. Thanks to having recorded most of the album, I'm able to do a lot with my multitracks and with the final stems Mark Lewis sent after mixing. With all that data, thanks to Neural Amp Modeler I am able to train pretty good simulations of the final album tones. The left side and the leads are me playing through a plugin and the right side is Ryan Knight playing the real EVH 5150iii EL34. Pretty cool where music technology is at these days!
