Take Back the Night (TBTN) is a powerful annual event dedicated to raising awareness about sexual and power-based violence, supporting survivors, and empowering our community to take action. This event has many facets including keynote speakers and performances, a candlelight march, a resource fair where you can win prizes, and a speak-out. The 2025 theme for TBTN is “Strength in Unity, Power in Community.” Take Back The Night is composed of five (5) campus events: Welcome Address & Keynote Address The evening begins with distinguished speakers who discuss various aspects of sexual violence, including the societal factors that contribute to its existence, its profound impact, and how these issues connect to their area of expertise and the broader community to promote collective action and support for survivors. Candlelight March By marching, we come together as a community in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm our commitment to ending sexual violence. Participants often carry posters and signs that share personal messages about why they march or what Take Back the Night means to them. Education & Resource Fair We collaborate with campus and community partners to create educational stations that highlight the theme “Ending Sexual Violence One Step at a Time.” These stations feature interactive activities designed to educate participants about power-based violence. Through engaging and creative experiences, we aim to capture attention, spark meaningful conversations, and raise awareness in an impactful way. Live Performances We feature live performances from campus organizations and community members who use music, spoken word, dance, and other artistic expressions to share their passions and inspire unity and empowerment. Speak-Out The Speak Out is a powerful space where survivors have the opportunity to share their stories with the community, fostering healing and support. By creating space for these personal testimonies, we honor survivors’ experiences and strengthen our collective commitment to ending sexual violence.
