Please subscribe and hit the thumbs up button. My friend Sammy gave me two confederate rose cuttings, that I unknowingly planted too close to the house. I lost Sammy to dementia this year. I had to cut the rose back as it grew too tall. On the upside, I have given many rooted cuttings away to strangers, neighbors and family members. Sammy's gift to me lives on. I give a lot of seeds and cuttings away. It is a Southern tradition taught to me by my mother. I sometimes make mistakes in planting too close to the house, too close to the sewer line and in areas with the wrong lighting for a given plant. I am learning about plants and about my yard. Confederate roses are very forgiving plants/cuttings. I gave the original plants to a neighbor, and I planted two cuttings from the original plant in a sunny location safely away from my roof. In Texas, they can grow taller than your house! I saw one down Plum Grove Road that was like a massive live oak due to its size. It was only by the blooms that I could tell from a distance that it was indeed a confederate rose. I know my cuttings will live on as does my memory of Sammy.
