Stand Together (Original Song) by Seth Staton Watkins I rewrote the first half of my song "It's Not The Poor Folk" and decided to rename it "Stand Together" in the wake of yet another electoral victory for Donald Trump, hopefully as a reminder that other working folk, which includes immigrants and minorities, are not the enemy and weaponizing the government against marginalized groups will only entrench hierarchical and despotic power structures. Modern institutions of power that utilize charismatic politics, esoteric knowledge, and a monopoly on violence as forms of domination ought to be dismantled not bolstered, and replaced by grass-roots mutual aid and uncoerced work that benefits everyone so that we may once again enjoy the three fundamental freedoms outlined by David Graeber and David Wengrow in their book, "The Dawn of Everything" (2021), those being 1) the freedom to move or travel away from despotism under the auspices of universal hospitality for refugee and vagabond alike, 2) the freedom to disobey arbitrary power, and 3) the freedom to shift and negotiate social relations. Most urgently, we must protect the vulnerable by supporting a woman's right to bodily autonomy, providing a safe haven for refugees and migrants of war and conflict, socializing access to healthcare, housing, and food, and ending our involvement in genocidal wars abroad. Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump indeed support corporate interests, but Trump also presents as a clear and present danger to various marginalized and vulnerable communities and we must organize to resist the fascistic policies put forth by his cohort. Peace and love in all things. Lyrics: When the people’s will is swayed By a conman’s cheap charade Despite the crass misogyny And blatant hypocrisy When the fascist voices swell We hear echos of the past They vilify the immigrants, The leftists and outcasts When the opposition croaks And the people just don’t vote For the same old tired rhetoric Of neoliberal politics We must organize the fight For our universal rights For democracy and empathy to permeate this life For it's not the immigrant who labors for some bread Who’s making us toil till we drop dead No, it is not minorities or peer-reviewed authorities Or queer folks, and trans folks, or a multitude of deities I say all are your comrades and none are enemies In the momentous fight against all bourgeois priorities I say freedom is not those traditional values Crafted from bigotry and classist realities Freedom is freedom to move and disobey To rely on one another to keep would-be kings at bay Say none of us can stand alone against their power We must stand together, and make them cower For the laws of this land have us used and abused Owned and subordinate to our patriarchal roots I say it's high time we reinvent this whole operation To make mutual benefit our sole occupation Because Freedom is freedom to move and disobey To rely on one another to keep would-be kings at bay Say none of us can stand alone against their power We must stand together, and make them cower (here we go) Yes, Freedom is freedom to move and disobey To rely on one another to keep would-be kings at bay Say none of us can stand alone against their power Rise proletariat, and make them cower
