Professor Shearer West, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nottingham, welcomes all students to the University of Nottingham. Transcript: 'Hello everyone and welcome to Nottingham. This is for me one of the most exciting times of the year. It will also be an extraordinary year – in every sense of the word. At the University of Nottingham, we are accustomed to dealing with the extraordinary - and all of us are here to support you every step of the way. Hundreds of my colleagues have worked across the summer to get our campuses safe and ready for you. Our libraries and study spaces will be open and covid-secure. We will teach you in person, wherever it is safe to do so - and we will also teach online so that you will never miss any material. Although we are social distancing we are still socially active. Our Students’ Union, societies and sports facilities - will help you socialise, keep fit or make new friends. In of all the excitement of the next few weeks, I ask you to remember two things. Please follow all social distancing measures on campus and in the community - protect yourselves and respect those around you. Study hard, make new friends and take every opportunity the University, Students’ Union and our city and county have to offer. The University of Nottingham is a community where we support each other. The next few months - like the last few - will no doubt bring unexpected challenges. We will adapt to any necessary measures and may need to be flexible from time to time. Don’t be afraid to seek advice or help. But most of all, enjoy your time with us. Take care, be safe and I look forward to seeing you around campus.'
