The Tema-Aflao Dual Carriageway Project is finally back in motion after a 15-month suspension due to funding issues and debt restructuring. Now under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, construction resumed on April 7, 2025. This 17-km road includes a 3-lane dual carriageway, 4 interchanges, service lanes, drainage systems, pedestrian bridges, and high-mast lighting. In this documentary-style ride-along, we travel the long-neglected Tema-Aflao road – a critical trade artery connecting Ghana to Togo and beyond – to uncover why it fell into disrepair and how it’s now being revived. 🇬🇭 From its historical abandonment and “unpaved road to hell” reputation among locals to its economic importance as part of the Abidjan-Lagos corridor linking five West African nations, this video dives deep into the road’s story and significance. Heavy machinery and construction crews are back on site at last, transforming the once-derelict highway into a modern dual carriageway. Work on the 17-kilometre stretch (from the Kpone Barrier past Community 25 to Miotso) resumed in April 2025 after a 15-month halt, following renewed government assurances that funding is secured. We show you exclusive footage of bulldozers and pavers in action as UK-based BHM International Construction Ltd. (the project contractor) races to make up for lost time. You’ll hear how President Mahama’s administration galvanized this restart – the Roads Minister, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, personally urged contractors back to work with a promise to restore payments after the previous government’s debt crisis froze the project. Government officials and engineers on camera outline the new timeline: about 18 months to complete this first phase, which includes four interchanges (at Kpone, Savannah Junction, Afienya, and Prampram) along with modern drainage, pedestrian bridges and lighting. We clearly explain the updated project schedule and how BHM and its Ghanaian partners plan to deliver by the deadline. This video also captures the public outcry and hope surrounding the Tema-Aflao road. We recount recent protests by frustrated residents who donned red and carried “#FixTheRoads” placards, marching at dawn from Kpone Barrier to Dawhenya to demand action. 🇬🇭🚀
