In the Taoist deity system, he is regarded as the leader of male deities, overseeing the records of all male immortals and responsible for assessing and grading their spiritual attainments, serving as the commander of all male deities. On the day of Ding Mao, he often ascends to the celestial platform to scrutinize the progress of those practicing Taoism and their spiritual transformations, providing guidance and protection to those seeking immortality. Therefore, anyone who attains enlightenment and becomes an immortal must first respectfully pay homage to Dong Wang Gong and Xi Wang Mu before ascending to the Nine Heavens and paying tribute to the Three Pure Ones: Yuan Shi Tian Zun, Ling Bao Tian Zun, and Dao De Tian Zun. In ancient times, the theory of Yin-Yang and the Five Elements was prevalent, with wood, as one of the five elements, symbolizing vitality and vigor, representing the prosperity and growth of nature, and embodying the abundance and immortality of life.
