The 48-bell carillon was built by the Paccard Foundry in Annecy, France. The first set of 11-bells were installed in 1980, another 13-bells in 1990, and the final 24 in 1999. The bells are made of bronze, 80% red block copper and 20% tin - giving them a singing like quality. Four of the Tenor bells swing like rope pulled bells but are driven by electric motors: A, G, F, and C. In 2014, the church installed a pneumatic system that allows them to record music into a digital computer and have the pneumatic pistons depress each baton as if it were being played live. My husband, Jeff, and I had the pleasure of touring the sanctuary, the practice Carillon, and the actual Carillon in the bell tower at Idlewild Presbyterian Church. Our guides, David Caudill and Peggy McClure, spent about 1.5 hours with us showing us everything as well as playing a number of songs for us. It was AMAZING! Idlewild Presbyterian Church is located at 1750 Union Ave, Memphis, TN 38104. #music #bells #carillon #idlewild #idlewildpresbyterianchurch #church #memphis
