While I am being a bit facetious with the title, there is a bit of discombobulation within the cycling industry as a whole. Bike shops are doing what they can with education and consumers but there is so much heavy marketing coming from big brands that it is hard to convince clients of anything other than what is being fed from giant marketing budgets. Basically, the larger brands have dumped chips all in on longer travel trail bikes and enduro bikes to the detriment of 90% of mountain bike riders. Specialized, Trek, Giant, Cannondale, Canyon, YT, Intense, and a few other of the larger brands are all in on the bigger is better theme. I personally think that mantra is very wrong. This Tallboy is only 120mm of travel driven by a 45mm stroke shock and this bike will handle everything in Charlotte and 95% of everything in Pisgah, Dupont, Beech, Kanuga, etc but everything the aforementioned brands do and say, pushed bigger and bigger travel bikes, even though they make the local trails we ride the majority of the time extremely mundane. Obviously you are unlocking another level of speed when you hop on an enduro bike in the mountains but most bikers have one bike and are being led down the completely wrong path. We need to get back to focusing on the most fun aspects of riding and how to maximize that on the trails we ride the most! The Tallboy is it! Especially if you are only going to have one bike!
