the REASONABILISTS: Tagu Jams Live Recording Session

I was really excited when I found out that The Reasonabilists (‪@thereasonabilists‬) were coming to Tagu Jams for their live recording session this past May. Formed in 2018, this upbeat rock band has been around for awhile in Yangon indie rock scene. But I saw their live performance for the first time only a month before at "What Is This Sound?" music concert. And they were fantastic! They rocked that young crowd at sunset and deservedly got a call for an encore. I saw the same live performance energy from the band when they came in for their jam session at our office on a hot May afternoon. We filmed and recorded this jam within the four hours window (1PM - 5PM) when we had power supply that day. (NOTE: The power cuts were quite frequent during that month in Yangon.) This may have been the hottest jam (literally) we have filmed to this date. Even though the name "The Reasonabilists" came from a doomsday cult on US sitcom Parks and Recreation (Hail Zorp!), their music is quite upbeat: poetic lyrics dancing over catch guitar riffs. Vocalist and songwriter Paing Lynn Aung draws inspiration from indie/alternative bands such as The Nationals, The Smith and Kings of Leon but I think the band is successful make creating their own unique sound. As soon as you hear the first couple bars of the intro, you know right away that it's The Reasonabilists. Their songs are easy to listen to but at the same time the contemplative lyrics make you think. As with most bands that have been featured on Tagu Jams so far, The Reasonabilists are also working on their new album which is coming out this year. The band performed a total of four songs in this session: Trip, 12 and Nway (နွေ) from their debut album "Day/Night" along with their hit song "Balloon" from their first EP "Amour".
