Here is a compilation video of the MR-63 Montreal Metro trains that consisted of the Jeumont current chopper mechanism. The current chopper is used to "chop down the current" so to speak, so that the motors only use enough electrical current that they need. This is to prevent power surges or too much electricity entering the train which could damage other electrical components. The Jeumont current chopper motors that were used on a few MR-63 trains served as the prototype for the Jeumont choppers that are on all MR-73 Montreal Metro trains now. The sound that the current choppers make is the official STM sound now and is actually trade marked. Interestingly, the first three notes of Fanfare for the Common Man are the same as some of the Jeumont sound notes. There were three Jeumont choppers in total: Elements 40, 41 and 42. An element consists of 3 metro wagons: A cab wagon (which has motors) + a trailer wagon + another cab wagon. So C-T-C would be one element. A typical Montreal Metro train usually has 3 elements (9 wagons total) except for the AZUR trains, which are technically all one element and are numbered as sets. To find the element number, you look at the last 3 digits of the trailer wagon belonging to that element. For example, Element 40 had the trailer wagon 80-040, Element 41 had the trailer wagon 80-041, and Element 42 had the trailer wagon 80-042. Note that the trailer wagons do not containt motors, as it's only the cab cars that contain motors. Here are the exact fleet numbes of all the wagons involved in the Jeumont choppers. Element 40: Cab motor wagon 81-579 -- Trailer wagon 80-040 -- Second cab motor wagon 81-580 Element 41: Cab motor wagon 81-581 -- Trailer wagon 80-041 -- Second cab motor wagon 81-582 Element 42: Cab motor wagon 81-583 -- Trailer wagon 80-042 -- Second cab motor wagon 81-584 Note that there was also a current chopper similar to the Jeumont made by Hitachi, but this was only briefly tested on some MR-63 trains and then replaced with regular MR-63 motors. Of course all the MR-63 metro trains have been retired and scrapped. Only a few metro trains have been preserved, none which have the Jeumonts. With that said, there is apparently a Jeumont in different pieces with the STM right now in storage. Most of these clips were from 2016.
