He went on to work sporadically in film and television throughout the rest of the decade, notably appearing in Miami Vice and Martin Scorsese After hours. But it was John Heard's appearance in the 1988 comedy Big that kick-started his that guy status; playing the arrogant love rival to Tom Hank's character Josh. Throughout the nineties, he's played as diverse an assortment of roles as could be found: he was Robin Williams senior, the doubtful Dr Kaufman, in Penny Marshalls drama Awakenings. He was attorney and special counsel to the Director of the FBI in the Pelican Brief, and professor Riger in Wolfgang Petersen's thriller In the Line of Fire. Towards the end of the '90s to the early 2000s, John continued to work steadily in films and on television; his talents were perhaps best, utilized by director Brian De Palma, who cast Heard in Snake eyes, where he's in fine form as a Gilbert Powell's the owner of the Atlantic City Arena . One of his most memorable TV roles would be in the HBO's crime drama The Sopranos, where he plays the corrupt cop, Det Vin Makazian. - He's turned in fine supporting work in the biography drama Pollock, as well as playing the evil millionaire in the Wayans hit comedy White Chicks. In 2006's The Guardian he's Kevin Costner's friend and fellow officer at Barksdale Air force Base, as well as the main antagonist Sheriff Dozier in the biography drama, The Great Debaters. In the Horror -would you rather, alongside Sasha grey he plays the alcoholic man Conway. and in 2013's Crime thriller Runner Runner, he plays Justin Timberlakes no good dad Harry Furst. Through the past decade or so, John has continued to get small but memorable roles on big television shows; In the comedy drama entourage, he makes a brief appearance. He's commander Barry Garner in the Sci-fi Tv Series Battlestar Galactica. -In the Tv Series Prisonbreak he plays Sarah's father Governor FrankTancredi. In Modern Family, he makes an appearance as the irritating guy who always turns up at the wrong time. And to finish up, Heard plays George the drunk pervert in the Tv Movie Sharknado. - Now after watching all of those scenes, you can see why you probably recognise him! He's got a great acting range from playing racist villains and unlikable jerks, to warm fatherly figures and men with political power. John Heard is one of those actors where in the early '80s it wouldn't have been unreasonable to predict that he would've become an Oscar winner or a multiple nominee. While that didn't happen, he did get nominated for an Emmy for his role in the Sopranos. And I'm pretty sure he will never be forgot for his role in Home alone! So now that you know who he is, when you see his face on the Tv or silver screen, you can say Oh it's John Heard!
