It no longer makes sense for any OEM to produce CHAdeMO vehicles for any market globally. This is especially true after Toyota announced its transition away from CHAdeMO in favor of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) in relevant markets. With Japan being a NACS market, this decision marks the end of the first globally used charging standard, even in its home country. After spending considerable time in Japan, I understand why European and other automakers have moved away from the CHAdeMO standard to develop their own standard. This shift largely stems from the Japanese mindset, which is resistant to change once a decision has been made. Cultural values also play a significant role. For example, I previously thought that the "Rapidgate" issue in Japanese EVs, where charging speeds decreases over time, was a design flaw. However, I realized that this is a deliberate choice to minimize noise from cooling systems, aligning with Japan's societal norm of not disturbing others. However, as the demand for electric vehicles grows, even Japan must adapt. The country should transition to NACS and accept that EVs and charging stations will generate some noise. If it's acceptable in Japan for people to leave the air conditioning on in their ICE vehicles for hours, contributing to environmental pollution, then they should also accept to change some of their opinions.
