Moose Mountain has multiple access points, including from the Sibbald area to the north. Originally we had planned just a really long road walk with no intention to summit, but once we neared the jumping-off point for the north ridge, we decided to summit and then descend an alternate direction off-trail to make a loop. After being wet for hours in the deep snow and then exposed to the biting 80 kph winds at the summit, I developed frostbite on one of my feet. I spent the rest of the week healing from some excruciating and gory tissue damage. It is time to revisit my approach to cold weather travel. You are never too experienced to be taught a lesson or two!
