Did you know you can see wild horses, bison, and alligators in Florida? Just south of Gainesville, Payne’s Prairie Preserve State Park is home to some of the most unique wildlife in the state. We spent the day exploring its trails, spotting wild horses along the way, and even ran into a massive gator at the end of the Ecopassage Boardwalk. After exploring Payne’s Prairie, we headed to Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park which is a massive sinkhole with a lush, rainforest-like ecosystem at the bottom. It’s one of the most unique natural landmarks in Florida, and the perfect add-on if you’re visiting Payne’s Prairie.
