Breathe - Paradise, California: 3 years after Camp Fire

The towns of Paradise and Magalia were badly affected by the Camp Fire of 2018. I still remember that day and the events that unfolded are memories that haunt me. I've not been up to visit since, but today I decided it was time, so I took my drone to get an idea of how quickly things are recovering and what the scar looks like. I also found a couple long range spots to explore and film. The morning of November the 8th, 2018, I woke up to a very dark and red sky. I went outside, began to film and called to my family to come see. We didn't know how close it was quite yet and I went to work which happens to be at the base of Skyway, the main evacuation route for the local ridgetop communities. The things I saw that day were the most powerful events of my life to date: Fire on the ridge visible from Chico, countless families absolutely terrified and confused to state of panic, air too thick to breathe without N95 masks, a truck that caught on fire from downed power lines and stopped only after getting down the ridge, and I saw the heroic work of firefighters and first responders from places far and wide in the days and weeks to follow (for which we are eternally grateful). That was three years ago at the time of writing. Today, I saw a community that perseveres amidst a slow yet determined recovery.
