The Isle of Skye offers countless thrilling cycling routes, and this one takes you through the stunning Minginish Peninsula, home to the world-famous Talisker Whisky. Your journey begins at the pier in Portnalong, where you set off along the scenic shores of Loch Harport. Leaving the main road, you venture inland via a winding back road that rewards you with breathtaking ocean views and a series of climbs and descents. Returning to the lochside road, you continue riding with the distant silhouette of the Cuillin Hills—one of Scotland’s most dramatic mountain ranges—on the horizon. A right turn leads you inland once more, this time into the picturesque valleys of Eynort and Talisker. Both are strikingly beautiful, showcasing Skye’s wild, untamed landscapes. As is typical of Scotland, the weather shifts unpredictably, and soon, rain begins to fall. You get a true taste of Skye’s ever-changing climate as you tackle a wet and challenging climb before descending into Carbost. The ride concludes at the doorstep of the legendary Talisker Distillery, where a well-earned dram awaits. In this video, you’ll join a ride alongside a recreational cyclist. If you'd prefer to ride at your own pace, see the details below on how to do so using our indoor cycling app, Open Road.
