This is a Nucast kit with a SE Finecast etched chassis designed by Justin Newitt (Rumney Models). The chassis has CSB suspension, wheels are from Alan Gibson and gearbox and motor are from High Level. As alluded to - in the video - this engine ran on the first time out, but threw a locking nut resulting in three wheels losing their quartering. But this wasn't the only problem. The coupling rods were very tight on the wheels. The quartering was solved over a 3 hour period of trial and error, the coupling rods where simply opened out to 1.7 mm, which solved the tightness in them and allowed the engine to move freely. It was also noted that the wheels had too much slop in them (side to side movement), I solved this by introducing hand made washers of 0.6 mm plastic card to take up the slop. When you view the video all seems well, except it isn't. The engine refuses to crawl and frequently shorts. And to top it off - it now won't go around the tightest curve on Barrow Road, so I shall have to replace the washers with some thinner card. But, looking at it running, it shows a lot of promise.
