Contemporary capitalism is best understood not merely as an economic system, but as an institutionalised societal order that relies upon "non-economic" background conditions to function. These conditions—which include social reproduction, ecological stability, public political power, and the expropriation of racialised populations—are systematically "cannibalised" by the drive for endless accumulation. The system creates and maintains structural divisions between commodity production and the "hidden abodes" that sustain it, treating these vital supports as costless resources. Consequently, current global instability is multidimensional, manifesting as a series of "metabolic rifts" and social crises where capital devours its own foundations. Resistance to this order extends beyond traditional class conflict to include "boundary struggles" over gender, nature, and political autonomy, aiming to redefine the relationship between the economy and the rest of society. #Capitalism #SocialReproduction #EcologicalCrisis #Expropriation #BoundaryStruggles #SystemicCrisis #InstitutionalOrder #PoliticalEconomy
