Ballast Point High West Barrel Aged Victory At Sea is an Imperial Porter that is meant to be an amped up, tasty spin on a classic style and it clocks in at 12.0% ABV. Ballast Point describes High West Barrel Aged Victory At Sea as follows: "A 12 percent ABV imperial porter brewed with coffee beans sourced from Caffe Calabria, vanilla and peanut butter before being aged in barrels that previously held High West bourbon and rye. Ballast Point High West Barrel Aged Victory At Sea WRITTEN REVIEW: A: Ballast Point High West Barrel Aged Victory At Seareally black with a 1.5 - 2 finger tan head. Nice glass lacing and tons of alcohol legs. Light gets through about an inch of this beer where some slight red glints get through, opacity is high. S: Immediately I get strong fresh ground coffee aroma followed by bourbon, leather, dark and milk chocolate. As the beer warms there is also caramel, some roasty malts, char and dark fruits, a hint of vanilla and spice. No alcohol is detectable in the aroma. T: Follows the nose. The carbonation is spot on and as the beer goes down it tells you it is a 10% ABV beer via gentle warming in the chest. O: Ballast Point High West Barrel Aged Victory At Sea is a GREAT representative of the style that offers an updated, new twist on what an Imperial Porter can be. A little pricey, but well worth the cost especially when you consider the quality level of the beer.
