Backpacking in California on the Big Pine Creek South Fork and camping for 2 nights at Brainerd Lake with a couple good buddies in September, 2023. 00:00:00 Intro 00:00:42 Travel Montage 00:03:07 The Adventure Begins! 00:07:16 Creek Crossing 00:16:24 Arriving at Brainerd Lake 00:17:57 Day 2 - Finger Lake Hike 00:24:12 Finger Lake 00:33:04 Day 3 - Hiking out This trip did not go the way we had planned, but it is hard to have any complaints when in a place as beautiful as this… We had originally planned on climbing Middle Palisade mountain, a 14er, but unfortunately one of our guys had some issues with what we believe to be a combination of altitude and not eating/drinking enough on the first day, so we had to set up camp at Brainerd Lake instead of Finger Lake, like we had planned. Even though I’m sure we could have, we just didn’t feel like adding the extra 500ish ft in elevation to summit from Brainerd Lake, so we just decided to have a nice relaxing second day with a hike up to Finger Lake and some of the glaciers/snow patches (of course I had to glissade again lol). Finger Lake is incredibly beautiful and we will definitely be back to camp there and to summit Middle Palisade!
