John Davison and Harry Manenti | ICC MT20WC | Italy post-match press conference | 12 February '26 12 February, 2026 [Reporter:] People just witnessed history being made where Italy won its first game at the T20 World Cup. What is the overriding emotion that you have and also what do you think this is going to do for Italian cricket? [John Davison:] Overriding emotion, there was definitely a few tears in the guys eyes, definitely meant a lot to a lot of guys out there, particularly the two Mosca boys, obviously being brothers and hitting a hundred, chasing none down, which was a phenomenal effort. It was a phenomenal effort in the field too. It was pretty interesting that game one nothing went our way and then today sort of everything went our way, but I think it was a reflection on how brave we were this game, as opposed to our first hit out in the World Cup, which was probably a little bit tentative. What does it mean to the Italian cricket? I think it just puts us on it. Yeah, this will be front page news in a lot of countries and a lot of publications in Italy. I'd imagine I'm hoping and for us to get that sort of exposure and , maybe knock off the Winter Olympics off the back page of the sport would be unbelievable for cricket in the country and just bring some attention to us. [Reporter:] [inaudible] not many had given Italy a chance, Nepal had the [inaudible] and had also come with thousands of their fans, so even in fans you were outnumbered. Do you think that people not giving Italy a chance and being out numbered in terms of fans- did that sort of galvanise the Italian team as well? [John Davison:] It was mentioned that there would be a lot of noise there, but how good for the boys to play in front of that many people and in front of that noise? We've got a lot of experienced players in our team who have played in front of crowds before. So having that experience definitely helped the guys who probably haven't experienced it. In terms of galvanising the team, we've won five of our last six games, including practice matches and whatnot, so we spoke about having belief and playing winning cricket and whatnot. So I'm really proud of the way the boys went about it. [Reporter:] Everything went your way from the toss to the fielding and later on the batting, but how important was your first over trying to get the opponents under pressure, especially the way he played against England? How important was your first over? [Harry Manenti:] We gave the ball to Ben, my brother, and we thought a little bit around who we bowl that first ball, because it is an important over to set the tone. When you win the toss and you bowl first, you want to try and start the game in an attacking way. And we thought the way the wicket looked, there might be a little bit of spin and hold. So we tried to bowl as much spin in that power play up front as we could. And then that sort of set the tone. We started well. Hassan Ali, who bowled really well the other day, bowled a nice first over as well. And then the boys sort of rolled on from there. It was one of those innings, as John said, Everything sort of went our way in a way. We didn't probably nail it the other night against Scotland, but today we showed what we've got in terms of intentions and our bravery and that sort of rewarded us in the end. [Reporter:] We usually don't see Nepal being outplayed in the fielding side of things but today your catching and your ground fielding was excellent. How important was that to put Nepal under pressure, especially in the later overs? [Harry Manenti:] We've done a lot of work in our fielding. It's a point of our game that we've probably tried to improve and where we've been a little bit behind previously in other tournaments. And this time we probably had a big focus on it in the preparation. So to be able to take some good catches and do some good efforts in the field, especially against a Nepalese team who run really hard and put some pressure on the outfielders, rewarded us in the back end to be able to minimise that total and allow our batters to chase with a bit of freedom. #ItalyCricket #JohnDavison #HarryManenti #T20WorldCup For more cricket updates from us: WEBSITE: https://cric-mate.com MEDIA SUPPORT: https://Witbuz.com
