"The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" edited and soundtrack by Titus Lest

Notes from the composer: For this project I chose to score a old movie ( The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, 1920). It is originally a silent film that is still scored but I replaced it with my own. I trimmed down the movie to make it somewhat short (~5 min) but still tell a coherent story. The basis of the story is a murder mystery & two mysterious men. I have a leitmotif for two characters, Cesare and Dr. Caligari. My intent was to make both of them sound off putting and jarring to instill the idea of something being off or wrong. I wanted to have them different yet similar to show that the two characters are connected. I mostly varied my motifs by having bits and pieces of the motifs played, sometimes repeatedly, and only playing the full motif I have notated for a few parts. I do have one scene where I have each leitmotif played simultaneously. My motifs shaped my storytelling with having started with my motifs, I felt more inclined to introduce other sounds that don't sound "good" as a way of symbolizing how things aren't pleasant.
