Yuliati's Journey with MDR-TB

Meet Yuliati Rahman from Jakarta, Indonesia. When she turned 17, Yuliati was diagnosed with multi drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). The disease weakened her so much, that her friends would carry her up 3 flights of stairs, just so she could finish her school exams. After months of failing TB treatment, Yuliati began to receive MDR-TB treatment at RS Islam Hospital in Jakarta. Through regimens containing more effective and newer TB drugs, her health gradually improved. Now, at 19, Yuliati is able to participate in life like other teens her age. She dreams of becoming a certified kindergarten teacher in the future. Yuliati is one of the many patients benefiting from endTB, a multi-country effort to increase access to newer TB drugs and provide renewed hope to MDR-TB patients struggling with the disease. The project is being implemented by IRD in #Pakistan, #Bangladesh, #Indonesia, #Vietnam and #SouthAfrica, in partnership with Partners In Health(PIH), Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and funded by UNITAID.
