IZTAPALAPA, MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Welcome back to CDMX todos! This is the final part (part 18) of my 2021 Mexico Travel series. After spending almost 4 months in Northern Mexico (Durango, Coahuila, Chihuahua and Sinaloa), I returned to Mexico City, specifically the ginormous area of Iztapalapa, where I filmed a video in 2020 and also lived for a period of time earlier in 2021. Many describe Iztapalapa as Mexico's dark side - dangerous, full of crime, danger and poverty. Granted, these issues do exist, however I've always found the people of Iztapalapa to be helpful and friendly just like in any area of Mexico. More than that, they are incredibly hard-working. An issue that has plagued Iztapalapa is the issue of transport and crime. To resolve this, a new and historic Cablebús system was inaugurated on August 8th 2021 and I was there to document the inauguration! Linea 2 stretches from Constitution de 2017 to Santa Marta, providing a safer route across the area for the area's citizens. It was an honour to be there on this historic day! We also check out the Xalpa area, head to a market for some comida Mexicana (mexican food) then walk to Santa Marta and visit some archaeological ruins in La Paz/Los Reyes. I'm not an EXPAT. I travel and work online. San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato and Querétaro are indeed lovely locations. But my motives are different. I aim to show you a different side of Mexico without the obligatory colonial buildings but with elements of reality for the every day Mexican.
